De’rayo Vocational Limited takes Skills Acquisition to Gambia

De’rayo Vocational Limited, in partnership with the Gambia Chambers of Commerce and Prospects for GIRLS have trained a chunk of Gambian crafters on Vocational Skills on Saturday 1st, April 2023.

De’rayo Vocational Limited a foremost skills acquisition and designing company took their craft to the Gambia recently where they impacted knowledge on the willing participants.

The Gambia Chambers of Commerce Conference hall,
GCCI office, C798+G8G, Senegambia Hwy, Serrekunda was the venue.

The sessions had in attendance; a button-up creation brand, owned by a Nigerian based in Gambia; textile designers; the head Gaye Njoro Skills Academy; wood crafters and the President of the Gambia crafters association; representatives of Banjul Craft market, in person of Buba Bah; Fajara Craft market in person of Aliou Bittaye; Palma Craft market in person of Amadou Jawo; Senegambia Craft market representative in person of Bamba Njie.

The training was an interactive session where participants were exposed to the amazing world of craft. The were thought on innovative ways of converting fabric waste to fashion accessories. The training also offered an insight into collaboration and marketing strategy.

Participants expressed their appreciation and confirmed that they have learnt to think outside the box regarding and creating sellable crafts .

They now understand how to use scrap from tailors to recycle or add value to ordinary things to create wealth.

The expressed the following challenges and desires;
– The want to visit Nigeria to network with creatives in Nigeria and gain more exposure.

– Financial support to be able to export and import to Gambia

– Collaboration with Nigeria chambers of commerce.

Animashaun Aminat Aderayo the CEO of De’rayo Vocational Limited says the training would not have been possible without the support of Nigeria export promotion council NEPC and The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
