Vivetta Ponti a young designer, who runs her namesake line, Vivetta, is bringing sweetly strange ideas to Italy’s fashion capital.
Ponti continues to grow her branded marks. Dresses and skirts are trimmed and are mostly in an A-line shape. Colors range from dainty pastels to pops of coral and few touches of muted goldenrod. Those fingertip-shaped collars she is known for adorn everything from sheer, embroidered dresses to tented tops with a heavy helping of frills. The big story, however, is the swan print Ponti selected for Resort. “I chose swans as the animal for summer because of their elegance and visions of swans on villa lakes,” she told Style.com. “I was inspired by Slim Aarons imagery, high society, and parties from the ’60s,” she went on, noting that the stripe motif conjured in blouson dresses and culotte overalls came from legendary jet-setters like “Aristotle Onassis’ entourage, Marella Agnelli, and Jackie Kennedy.”
The lookbook, styled by Leith Clark, brings Ponti’s delicate doyenne to life. “I imagine a privileged, perfect-looking girl with a perfect life in one hand, and in the other, her real life, wild with all the good and bad things in real life,” the designer riffed on her muse. That meant a combination of the elegant (handmade crocheted and embroidered headbands and socks) and the eerie (bugs crawling up skirt hems). The result, as with all things Ponti touches, is perfectly strange.
