The Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2023, held in the United Kingdom, was a remarkable event featuring the finest African fashion designers showcasing their outstanding designs. This prestigious event is Europe’s largest platform promoting and nurturing African and African-inspired fashion and design talents.
Since its inception, AFWL has provided a stage for over 800 emerging designers and exhibitors from Africa, Europe, and America, attracting nearly 70,000 visitors, including influential buyers, retailers, industry professionals, and media representatives. It has become a highlight on the annual fashion calendar.
The 2023 show featured prominent designers such as David Wej, Mary Martin London, Psalmy Exclusive, Adire Odua, among many other talented creators.
One of the standout moments was the runway presentation by Nigerian designer Samuel Awonuga, whose unique designs captivated the audience.
Awonuga, who holds a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos, is the CEO of Psalmy Exclusive, a rapidly rising brand in Nigeria’s fashion industry.
In an interview during the event, Awonuga expressed his humility and pride in participating in AFWL, where he showcased the rich culture and heritage of Nigeria and Africa through fashion.
“We are thrilled to be part of this incredible event, presenting the beauty and heritage of African culture, especially Nigeria, to the world in London,” he said. “The audience’s reaction when our models stepped onto the runway was heartwarming; it was a dream come true for me. We received numerous compliments for our fashion presentations.”
“Psalmy Exclusive was established not just for revenue and profit but to make our clients unique and stand out with impeccable styling. This passion has made us one of the fastest rising brands in Nigeria’s fashion industry,” Awonuga added. “We learned a lot from engaging with other brands and potential clients at this year’s AFWL. We are returning home with new ideas to create designs that meet current trends and our clients’ expectations. We are also open to collaborating with other brands.”
The event marked a significant milestone for Nigeria’s fashion landscape and another remarkable chapter in Awonuga’s journey with Psalmy Exclusive.
