Inspired by the style of his mentor, Mthokozisi Ntaka of Randervour, Lindo Shazi has always wanted to look just as nice as him.
The 22-year-old designer said he started by selling beanies and bucket hats in early 2014. Driven by the support of his family and people around him, he had saved enough money to start a business towards the end of the same year.
“In 2015, I started a branding company and in 2016, I was supplying different brands with clothes. From then, I have grown from street wear to strictly formal wear,” he said.
Shazi said the way people showed interest and support in his designs is exactly what made him turn his passion for fashion into a career and to start his own label, ‘Spoiled Brettz.’ “I like to dress and look nice. All I wanted to do was to dress myself until people recognized my great fashion sense. After they started showing an interest, I had to introduce them to my fashion,” he added.
The passionate young man is a self-taught fashion designer who claims he creates new things that no one else has ever made the way he makes them.
His biggest accomplishment was being part of the shows hosted by the KZN Fashion Council and dressing the likes of Nasty C and Masandi.
He also mentioned that as glamorous as fashion can be sometimes, it also has its ups and downs just like any other industry.
“Being a fashion designer is not easy and it comes with its own difficulties, you need to sacrifice all your time to make it through. I would like to let people who also want to be fashion designers, that they are going to be faced with a lot of difficulties, but they need to stay strong,” Shazi added. Shazi says his biggest goal in life is to start a fashion school that will produce the best fashion designers in town.
